Google And Yahoo New Email Authentication Requirements

Google and Yahoo have implemented new email requirements to help combat email spoofing. We are very excited about this as we all know how cluttered our inboxes get and how hard it is to trust that the emails we receive are genuine.

I don’t anticipate this is going to stop all email spoofing, but we look at this as a great start: Google and Yahoo are acknowledging it’s a problem and are starting to block senders who are abusing sending emails. Ever had difficulty unsubscribing from a newsletter, or had trouble telling whether an email was really from Facebook or not? These changes should help in both of those instances for users on Google and Yahoo’s email servers.

When Will These New Email Guidelines Be Implemented?

  • Google has said they are going to start rolling out those changes starting Feb. 1, 2024
  • Yahoo has said they are going to start rolling out those changes Q1 2024

Implementing Email Authentication for Google and Yahoo for ClearPG Clients

We don’t anticipate this will affect many of our clients. Google expressed that their strictest requirements come once you start sending over 5000 emails per day. That’s a lot. 😀 To stay on the safe side, ClearPG is auditing the domains of all of our managed hosting clients to make sure they're operating within the compliance recommendations around these new guidelines.

There are some guidelines that we will add during our audit, if needed, like verifying SPF records. We also recommend that you ask the IT company that manages your email how they’re implementing the guidelines. At minimum, we recommend that they check your account’s SPF, DKIM, and DMARC. Implementation of Google and Yahoo guidelines is an art, and one I love talking about with other tech professionals. If your IT company has questions, concerns, or ideas about changes to your domain, please connect us!
